Market Analysis

The general requirement for fresh graduate students like me to begin as a junior animator is possible, but must be accompanied with a strong show reel to indicate my current standard and ability. However if I do not reach the minimum requirement skill as a junior animator, I can always start as a camera tracker as alternatively, the jobs as a camera tracker can be lighter, thus I will have a chance to improve my animation reel and working at the same time. After working for 1 or 2 years, depending on my, ability, passion and attitude. Then I will have a chance to begin a junior animator or higher position.

As a professional animator, the contracts of job tend to be 1-2 years’ timeframe. Overall I must say that if I have the capability to handle any difficult situations and technical or perhaps being able to create a convincing motion with my animation skills, this may allow me to proceed to the next level. The next contracts offered by an employer to me would not be a big deal and main worries for me, because I possess the knowledge that the company hunger.

The introduction of motion capture technology has made a great impact towards the animation industry as well, however the animation generated from motion capture would not be perfect. And always requires a lot of refining, such as complex interaction between with more than one character. Inventions such as motion capture are a great achievement in the animation industry so far. Motion capture will ease the job of animators and help companies to finish the production rate at really fast speeds in a short period of time. Indirectly this will affect the increasing demand of animators to handle more work and production.

Based on my primary research, the initial salary for animators will increase if I am able to handle a very complicated animation sequence. Yet the job must be done with a clean and easy way, making it easier to fix during the key frame on every key pose that is being set. However to achieve such a higher level of skill, time and experience will be consumed.

Service feature

The basic service I will provide as a 3D Animator will include the workload of the entire post production stage including

  • Modeling
  • Texturing
  • Rigging
  • Animation
  • Lighting
  • Composition
However my main service would be my animation skills. The intention of my working target is to work under UK CG animation film companies. I will either sell my skills for hire in terms of employment full time within a company or temporarily as a freelancer. However if there is a freelance offering out from UK region, I will be more than happy to accept it too.

Stage 2 Business Plan

Studio Business and practice

In stage 2 we are order to build our own business plan for our future. The purpose of setting up our future business plan is to let us have a rough idea to begin as a part of society

The plan

initially I was thinking to be a freelancer 3D animator, and for that I'll need a clear and concise business plan. After doing some research online, I found a few useful websites that give a tips
for a freelancer to being set up a business plan.

Why do you need a business plan:

Begin a digital animator, the business plan may seem not really important for us, however some foundamental understanding of business structure is still needed.
  • To focus your efforts, set objectives and company direction.
  • To enable you to track your growth.
  • To structure the financial side of your business.
  • To raise finance.
  • To set realistic targets that allow some flexibility - without steering away from core objectives - for some 'fine tuning' along the way.
  • To enable you to spot potential pitfalls before they happen.

How to structure a business plan

Cover page
  • Company name, contact details (phone, fax and email).
  • Company logo.
  • An executive summary: a synopsis of the entire plan and a 'snapshot' of your business. Write this section last as it should include key selling points and highlights from all the other sections - the 'who, what, where, when, how and why' of your business. Your executive summary should be no more than two pages.
  • Presentation is everything, so invest time in layout as well as clarity of written information. Potential investors often stop reading at this point if you don't.
  • Ask several people to read your business plan - those who know your business and those who do not - before presenting it to a potential investor. Your reader should have a good understanding of your business just from this section alone.
  • Use the summary to inform the reader of the basics of your business and make it interesting.
